The new Standards of Modern Zoo Practice for Great Britain (SMZPGB) has become the dominant topic within the sector, impacting all zoos around the UK. As Local authorities and zoo inspectors have now began training on how to implement the new legislation, we feel it is the right time to deliver a masterclass workshop on the subject.
ABWAK working in conjunction with Chapman Zoo Consultancy present a Zoo Standards Masterclass, aimed at all staff working within a zoo setting or academic institution, wishing to gain a deeper understanding of the new legislation. We will delve into the new standards, highlighting the potential impact for individual collections, staff and the zoo industry.
Topics to be included:
- Deep dive into the new standards
- Increases in core standards
- How you can ensure compliance with the new standards
- Changes to animal experiences and displays
- Species specific changes
- Biosecurity and managing zoonotic disease
The workshop will be delivered by Sarah and Julian Chapman. Sarah is a zoo inspector, vet and zoo consultant and Julian is a well-respected zoo professional with over 35 years’ experience in the industry.
